Xeranthemum inapertum

Xeranthemum inapertum ("inapertum" means without opening).

  Xeranthemum (which means in Greek "dry flower") is a genus of plants in the thistle tribe (Cynareae), native to Southern Europe. They have silvery pink flowers that are preserved dry, and the most popular species that is grown as an ornamental plant, is Xeranthemum annuum.
Apart from Xeranthemum annuum that has beautiful daisy-like flowers, there are another two species found in Greece: X. cylindraceum and X. inapertum. Both are plants with similar inconspicuous flowers, with grey-green leaves, and with the latter being the shorter of the two.

  Το γένος Xeranthemum ανήκει στην φυλή των αγκαθιών (Cynareae), και περιλαμβάνει φυτά ενδημικά της νότιας Ευρώπης που έχουν ασημένια ροζ άνθη, και  τα οποία διατηρούνται ακέραια κι όταν ακόμη ξεραθούν. Το πιο γνωστό είδος, το οποίο καλλιεργείται ως καλλωπιστικό φυτό, είναι το Xeranthemum annuum με τα μεγάλα ροζ λουλούδια που μοιάζουν με μαργαρίτες.
Πέρα από το Xeranthemum annuum, στην Ελλάδα απαντώνται δύο ακόμη είδη: το X. cylindraceum και το X. inapertum. Και τα δύο αυτά φυτά έχουν παρόμοια μικρά αφανή άνθη και γκρι-πράσινα φύλλα, ενώ το τελευταίο είναι το μικρότερο από τα δύο.
