The name turns out being Hypecoum procumbens, one of the four Hypecoum species found in Greece.

  Το φυτό με τα πολύ έντονα κιτρινο-πορτοκαλί άνθη, φυτρώνει συνήθως σε καλλιεργημένα χωράφια, συχνά χρωματίζοντας ολόκληρες περιοχές, και ανθίζει από πολύ νωρίς την Άνοιξη. Εμφανίζεται επίσης στην άμμο, πολύ κοντά στη θάλασσα.

Hypecoum procumbens, ένα από τα τέσσερα είδη του γένους Hypecoum στην Ελλάδα, είναι το όνομα που αναζητούσαμε.

Miniature flowering plant

A really miniscule flowering plant, Erophila verna.

 The tiny little plants in these images were found in mid-February, in many sites around Thessaloniki.
The graceful plants form quite large colonies of simple hairy leaf-rosettes, that produce relatively tall flower stems. The white flowers are slightly bigger than moss seed capsules! I haven't a clue what it's name might be, though it isn't a rare species. Anybody some idea?

The name for this plant turns out being Erophila verna; a name that for some reason sounds very familiar. It blooms very early in spring and it is a species widespread in most of Europe and N. America.

  Τα μικροσκοπικα φυτά στις φωτογραφίες βρέθηκαν στα μέσα Φλεβάρη σε αρκετά σημεία γύρω από την Θεσσαλονίκη. Οι χαριτωμένοι ρόδακες σχηματίζουν μεγάλες αποικίες, και παράγουν έναν αναλογικά μακρύ ανθοφόρο βλαστό. Τα λευκά άνθη είναι ελάχιστα μεγαλύτερα από την κάψουλα σπόρων των βρύων με τα οποια συμβιώνουν. Μέχρι στιγμής δεν κατάφερα να εντοπίσω την ονομασία τους, παρότι δεν φαίνεται να είναι κάποιο σπάνιο είδος. Καμιά ιδέα κανείς;

Erophila verna είναι εν τέλει το "δυσεύρετο" όνομα που μοιάζει πολύ οικείο, σαν να το έχω ξανακούσει. Ένα από τα πιο πρώιμα ανοιξιάτικα λουλούδια, η Erophila verna φαίνεται πως είναι πολύ διαδεδομένη σε όλη την Ευρώπη και την Β. Αμερική.

Unidentified Verbascum species (III)

The exquisite leaf-rosette of an unidentified mullein species.

  The leaf rosettes presented here belong to two unidentified Verbascum species, both found in different locations in northern Greece at an altitude of about 800m. The first five unusually beautiful rosettes were photographed in June, whereas the last ones in late September. Unfortunately no flowering species were encountered.
Any idea or information is most welcome.

  Οι ρόδακες των φύλλων που παρουσιάζονται εδώ ανήκουν σε είδη βερμπάσκου που μένει να αναγνωριστούν. Και τα δυο είδη βρέθηκαν σε διαφορετικές περιοχές της Β. Ελλάδας σε υψόμετρο περίπου 800μ. Οι πρώτοι πέντε ασυνήθιστα όμορφοι ρόδακες φωτογραφήθηκαν τον Ιούνιο, ενώ οι τελευταίοι στα τέλη του Σεπτέμβρη. Δυστυχώς δεν υπήρχαν στην περιοχή ανθισμένα φυτά.
Κάθε ιδέα ή σχετική πληροφορία είναι ιδιαίτερα ευπρόσδεκτη.

Unidentified Verbascum species (II)

  The Verbascum species presented here is a plant that was found growing on sandy soil close to the sea and together with Verbascum pinnatifidum. The multi-branched inflorescence grows to 1,20m high, while the leaves are lobed, grey-green, and have long petiols.

  Το είδος του βερμπάσκου που παρουσιάζεται εδώ βρέθηκε να φυτρώνει σε αμμώδες έδαφος κοντά στη θάλασσα, μαζί με το Verbascum pinnatifidum. Η πολυδιακλαδισμένη ταξιανθία του φτάνει στο 1,20μ ύψος, ενώ τα φύλλα του είναι λοβωτά, γκριπράσινα και με μακρείς μίσχους.
