Asteriscus aquaticus

  Asteriscus is a small genus of Mediterranean plants usually bearing yellow flowers that look like small stars, hence the latinized Greek name Asteriscus (αστερίσκος) meaning small star. At least two of these species can be found in Greece.

Asteriscus aquaticus is a miniature annual or biennial flowering plant of the Mediterranean region, with yellow daisy-like flowers closely resembling those of Pallenis spinosa. This species usually occurs very close to the sea, on dry rocky soil, and occasionally one can find really miniscule specimen resembling Pallenis hierochuntica (also known as Asteriscus pygmaeus) which is not native to Greece.

  Το γένος Asteriscus είναι ένα μικρό γένος φυτών της Μεσογείου, τα οποία παράγουν συνήθως κίτρινα άνθη σαν μικρά αστέρια της γης, απ΄ όπου και το λατινοποιημένο όνομα του γένους. Τουλάχιστον δύο από αυτά τα είδη είναι αυτοφυή της Ελλάδας.

Ο Αστερίκος, Asteriscus aquaticus, είναι ένα ετήσιο ή διετές νανώδες φυτό της Μεσογείου, με κίτρινα λουλούδια που μοιάζουν πολύ με εκείνα του Pallenis spinosa. Το είδος αυτό απαντάται συνήθως σε ξηρά, πετρώδη εδάφη, πολύ κοντά στη θάλασσα, και ενίοτε μπορεί κανείς να συναντήσει μικροσκοπικά δείγματα φυτών που μοιάζουν με την Pallenis hierochuntica (γνωστή και ως Asteriscus pygmaeus) η οποία όμως δεν απαντάται αυτοφυής στην Ελλάδα.
