Notobasis syriaca

Notobasis syriaca

Notobasis syriaca (the sole species in this genus), also known as Cirsium syriacum, is a very slender and graceful thistle of the Mediterranean region and the Middle East. Syrian Thistle is an annual plant found mostly in southern Greece. It has white veined leaves like Silybum marianum and Carduus pycnocephalus, and each, relatively small, violet flower head is surrounded by beautiful, large purple-tinged, deeply veined, spiny bracts.
