Arthrocnemum fruticosum

A perennial glasswort, probably Arthrocnemum fruticosum.

  Arthrocnemum fruticosum, also known as Salicornia fruticosa, is a perennial succulent shrub growing up to 0,60 m. Like most glassworts it prefers saline soils and is found growing in salt marshes and by the seashore; the ashes of the plant were used in the past in making soap and glass. The flowers are hermaphrodite, and are wind pollinated.

  Το είδος Arthrocnemum fruticosum το οποίο είναι γνωστό και ως Salicornia fruticosa, συγγενές με την Salicornia europaea, είναι ένας πολυετής σαρκόφυλλος θάμνος που φτάνει τα 60 εκατοστά ύψος. Προτιμάει τα αλμυρά εδάφη και φυτρώνει στις αλυκές και κοντά στη θάλασσα. Στο παρελθόν το χρησιμοποιούσαν μαζί με την Salsola soda και την Salicornia europaea για την παρασκευή σαπουνιού και γυαλιού. Τα ερμαφρόδυτα λουλούδια του γονιμοποιούνται από τον άνεμο.
